Q) Once I get to the facility, where should the electronics go?
A) Each facility that accepts electronics for recycling is equipped with a large blue storage pod.
Q) My business has a lot of electronic equipment to be recycled.  Will DSWA accept electronics from businesses?
A) DSWA can accept electronics from businesses. Those businesses that wish to recycle their electronics must bring them to the Delaware Recycling Center (DRC) on Lambsons Lane in New Castle or the Milford Transfer Station in Milford.  There you will be weighed in and out and will be billed 15 cents per pound with a $10.00 minimum. A company called Computers Donation Management, Inc. (CDM) from Baltimore, Maryland may be called to schedule pick up of large volumes of electronic equipment for recycling. Businesses can contact CDM for details of pick up service.
Q) Are there any organizations who are exempt from paying the 15 cents per pound?
A) Delaware residents, schools, non-profit agencies, and public agencies are the only groups who are exempt from paying the 15 cents per pound.
Q) Can my business take the electronics to the pods at each facility?
A) NO, these pods are set up to accept small amounts of electronic goods from Delaware residents only.
Q) Why should I recycle electronic goods?
A) Some components of these electronic devices may contain pieces that if improperly handled could be harmful to the environment. Certain components may contain small amounts of lead, silver, barium, cadmium, and mercury. Many of these metals can be recovered and recycled by de-manufacturing and recycling of electronic devices.
Q) Even though electronic goods can be recycled, am I still allowed to put them in the garbage?
A) Yes, although DSWA recommends electronic goods be recycled, electronic goods can be placed in your household garbage.
