Environmental Education Building

Education Building 2015

We are very excited to have a brand new education building available to share even more about recycling and other DSWA programs. Our new education building includes a classroom with multimedia equipment where our education staff will present a range of information on DSWA facilities, programs and our partner companies ReCommunity and Revolution Recovery. Our ultimate goal is to inform children (and adults) about what happens to trash once it is thrown away and just how important it is to recycle. They will explore how a landfill works as well as how recyclable are sorted and packed at the Materials Recovery Facility. To complement our informative lessons a room of interactive learning displays is located within the education building. If you wish to bring a lunch, the classroom will be available for use at the conclusion of the program.

Location: 1101 Lambsons Lane, New Castle, DE 19720
Directions: Rt. 9 North, toward Wilmington. Turn right on Lambsons Lane, DRC is straight ahead.

  • Teachers

Students will learn what happens to trash and recycling after it leaves their school or home. Through a combination of classroom learning, interactive learning stations, and games students will gain an understanding of how recycling is sorted, the workings of a landfill and more! A short bus tour around the Delaware Recycling Center will allow students to view the MRF and C&D facilities.
In addition to informing students of DSWA facilities and programs, our educators are ready to assist teachers in achieving their curriculum goals.

Field trips can be scheduled Monday-Saturday
    Programs run approximately 1.5-2 hours
Each program can accommodate 50 children.
If needed, larger groups can schedule two programs per day or over a multiple day period.

  • Scout Groups

DSWA is very happy to assist Scout groups in completing the necessary education or activates to achieving a scouting goal. DSWA Educators can help tailor a lesson or activity to fit your group’s needs.
