The Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) is proud to announce that it’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard P. Watson P.E., BCEE has been selected as a one of the University of Delaware’s 2015 Outstanding Alumni. The Outstanding Alumni Awards are presented annually to an alumnus and alumna in recognition of their exemplary work on behalf of the University of Delaware. For over 50 years, the University of Delaware Alumni Association has honored University graduates with this award. The DSWA’s Board of Directors appointed Mr. Watson as the DSWA Chief Executive Officer in 2013. Mr. Watson received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Clarkson University and a Masters of Civil Engineering degree from the University of Delaware. He has been a part of the DSWA staff since 1981, where he first served as a project engineer for Delaware’s first double lined sanitary landfill. He is a Professional Engineer in Delaware, a Board Certified Environmental Engineer with the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, and is the first United States International Waste Manager for the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA). Mr. Watson has led instruction in landfill design and operation for the ISWA and served as Past President of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America. In addition, Mr. Watson has served as an Environmental Engineering Program evaluator for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology and currently serves as President of the Northeast Recycling Council (NERC). As Chief Executive Officer, he is responsible for a wide range of duties, including planning, organizing, and implementing all programs, budgets, and operations for the DSWA.
