DSWA Expands Services At Cheswold Collection Station

The Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) is excited to announce the grand opening of the Cheswold Collection Station Recycling Center.  Beginning May 1, 2017 the staffed recycling and household trash collection center will be open Monday-Saturday 8:30am-3:30pm. The facility will expand its services to offer the following services 6 days a week: bagged household trash collection, single-stream recycling, cardboard recycling, oil and oil filter recycling, household batteries, electronics recycling, as well a drop-off for Styrofoam packaging.  Residents will also be able to continue to drop off household hazardous waste every Friday from 10am-2pm. The 1st Friday of each month will include latex paint collection and document shredding from 10am-2pm.

DSWA will be celebrating the grand opening with a special event on May 13 from 10am-2pm.  Residents visiting the center that day will be treated to hot dogs and beverages, and appearances by local radio stations with special giveaways including tickets to the Firefly Music Festival.

In November, DSWA announced upcoming changes to the Recycling Drop-Off Program which included; the addition of 4 Staffed Drop-Off Centers located at; the Cheswold Collection Station, the Delaware Recycling Center in New Castle, Jones Crossroads Landfill in Georgetown and a brand new center located in the Newark area. These centers will be opened 8:30 to 3:30 Monday-Saturday to collect; electronics, single stream recycling, cardboard, household batteries, used oil and oil filters and Styrofoam. There will also be a household hazardous waste event once a week and a paper shredding/ latex paint collection event once a month at each location. Also included are 9 additional Drop-Off Centers located at DSWA facilities throughout the State. These centers will be open 8:30-3:30 Monday – Saturday to collect; single stream recycling, cardboard, household batteries and used oil and oil filters. Other Drop-Off centers which are not located at DSWA facilities will eventually be removed. DSWA will post a sign at each center with an exact date prior to the site being removed.

DSWA is excited to open it’s first of four staffed centers and bring these expanded services to the Cheswold Collection Station.
