The Delaware Solid Waste Authority would like to extend its apologies to the residents of Delaware who attended the April 2 collection event at Barley Mill Plaza in Wilmington We understand that wait times were long and that we were unable to service everyone. We serviced 1,030 cars during the event from 8am-2pm; the Delaware Solid Waste Authority has been providing these collection events for residents for many years and the April 2 event far exceeded any expectation we had for any event. While other events can get busy, the Barley Mill Plaza event was the exception to how these events typically operate.
At one point during the event we were unable to accept any more documents for shredding because we had exceeded the capacity of the trucks; because of this our vendor, ShredOne will be setting up a paper shredding only event on Sunday, April 17 from 8am-2pm again at Barley Mill Plaza.
Please know that we are taking what we learned from the April 2 event and making sure we apply these changes to our future events. DSWA is providing 16 Saturday collection events throughout 2016, and, in addition, has weekly collection events for household hazardous waste and electronics in each county.
