Beginning January 1, 2020, the Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) will be moving it’s weekly collection of Household Hazardous Waste at the Delaware Recycling Center in New Castle from every Wednesday to every Saturday. With this move DSWA will be able to extend the hours of collection to 8:30am-2pm each Saturday. The 1st Saturday of each month DSWA will continue to hold a document shredding event from 8:30am-2pm. Electronics Goods will continue to be collected for recycling Monday-Friday 8:30am-3:30pm and Saturday 8:30am-2pm. Residents who frequent this event should find this move to make our collection events more efficient because of the reduced truck traffic on Saturdays. DSWA found the traffic created by this weekly collection plus residential recycling truck traffic was not helping to provide the level of service DSWA wanted for its customers. DSWA hopes this change will make it even easier for Delaware residents to use these collection services.
Looking forward DSWA is also very excited to be opening it’s awaited Newark Recycling Center this spring. This location will offer, single stream recycling bins, styrofoam recycling, 6-day a week Electronics Recycling, weekly Household Hazardous Waste Collection and monthly paper shredding. Be on the lookout for announcements about the opening this new center, coming to the Pencader Industrial Park over the next few months.
