DSWA Announces Changes to Board of Directors

Ryan Web 2014 On Wednesday, March 25, 2015 it was announced that long time Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) Board of Director member Theodore (Toby) Ryan would not be extending his term as part of the Board. Mr. Ryan has been a member of the DSWA Board of Directors since his appointment in January 1979. During that 36-year period he has served as Chairman of the Citizen’s Affairs Committee since 2005. Following his last Board meeting with DSWA, Mr. Ryan was awarded the Order of the First State by Governor Jack Markell. The award is the highest honor for meritorious service granted by the governor. During his time with DSWA Mr. Ryan also served as the President of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Delaware from 1973-1979, as the Regional Director and Labors Relations for the U.S Department of Housing & Urban Development for Region III from 1979-1985 and served as President of the New Castle County Council from 1993-1996. Mr. Ryan’s commitment and passion for service to the Delaware Solid Waste Authority is unmatched. In the early 1990’s he was very instrumental in the construction of the Pine Tree Corners Transfer Station, which helped provided convenient waste disposal options for southern New Castle County and since it’s success has prompted the construction of two more DSWA Transfer Stations in Delaware. DSWA’s Chairman of the Board, Mr. Gerard Esposito said “Toby Ryan has helped lead the DSWA with a steady hand for virtually its entire existence. For 36 years there has been no Board member who has so passionately advocated for and tirelessly given his time to the Authority. His enthusiasm, knowledge, and energy will be sorely missed.” The Delaware Solid Waste Authority’s Board of Directors and along with its staff wishes Mr. Ryan good health and happiness in his future pursuits.
