Delaware Recycling Center

The Delaware Recycling Center (DRC) is a pivotal piece of DSWA’s role in recycling in Delaware.  DSWA has teamed up with two partner companies who have helped to expand DSWA’s goal of creating a green campus. Republic, a nationally recognized company, runs a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) where household recycling is sorted and baled. Revolution Recovery, a Philadelphia based company, processes and bales construction and demolition (C&D) waste such as wood, drywall, metal, and carpet. All of the sorted and baled material is then sent to different facilities/ markets to be recycled into new products. Please note that Revolution Recovery does charge a tipping fee to recycle the items above.  Please contact the Revolution Recovery office at 302-356-3000 in advance of your visit to make payment arrangements.

Also on site at the DRC is DSWA’s Environmental Education Building. The education building includes a classroom with multimedia equipment where our education staff will present a range of information on DSWA facilities, programs and our partner companies Republic and Revolution Recovery. The ultimate goal is to inform children (and adults) about what happens to trash once it is thrown away and just how important it is to recycle.

Rt. 5 Transfer Station

Residents and commercial haulers can bring trash to the Rt. 5 Transfer Station rather than driving to one of DSWA’s landfills. Vehicles drive up a ramp into an enclosed building where trash is dumped onto a concrete floor. A backhoe carefully pushes the trash into a transfer trailer, which takes it to a DSWA landfill. Key features of the transfer station consist of a scale house, two scales, a transfer station building with a five-bay tipping floor, and a small load drop-off where residents can deposit waste. In addition, there are designated areas outside to receive used appliances, tires, and yard waste.

Milford Transfer Station

Residents and commercial haulers can bring trash to the Milford Transfer Station rather than driving to one of DSWA’s landfills nearest to Milford. Vehicles drive up a ramp into an enclosed building where trash is dumped onto a concrete floor. A backhoe carefully pushes the trash into a transfer trailer, which takes it to a DSWA landfill. Key features of the transfer station consist of a scale house, two scales, a transfer station building with a three-bay tipping floor, and a separate small load area where residents can deposit waste. In addition, there are designated areas outside to receive used appliances, tires, and yard waste.

A drop-off container is available for residents to drop off Styrofoam for recycling. Residents are able to drop off their clean Styrofoam, such as foam cups, foam plates, foam egg cartons, take out containers, as well as foam protective packaging typically used to protect consumer goods and electronics.
