Home Resources Collection Stations

Collection Stations

  • What are the hours of operation?

The normal hours of operation vary by time of year and location. See the Collection Station page for details.

  • What type of trash is accepted?

Bagged household waste and yard waste. Bags no larger than 33 gallon.

  • What are the fees charged to dispose waste?

One ticket punch per bag. Ten and twenty punch tickets are available for $10 and $20 respectively. It is $1 per bag.

  • Do you take lead acid (car) batteries?

No, these batteries can be returned to the place of purchase or automotive supply store. These businesses frequently pay you the core charge.

  • Why can’t the tickets be bought at the collection stations or somewhere close by?

For the safety of the collection station attendants, no cash is handled at the collection stations. The collection stations are intended for inexpensive waste disposal and recycling. The addition of local ticket agents would raise the cost per bag.

  • Why are certain collection stations opened on Sundays only during the summer months?

Demand is high enough in the summer due to the area’s tourist and part time residents.

  • Where can customers purchase the tickets?

Tickets can be purchased by mail or in person at SSWMC Landfill, Route 5 Transfer Station, Milford Transfer Station, DSWA main office in Dover or the Sussex County Office located on Race Street in Georgetown, on line at dswa.com.

  • Why are the recyclables being placed in one container?

The recyclables are now sorted at the destination. This reduces cost of transportation and improves convenience for you the customer.

  • If the question and answer that I’m looking for isn’t located on the web site, where can I go to get my question and answer?

You can call the Citizens’ Response Line at 1-800-404-7080.
